Nestle Purina PetCare recently issued a voluntary recall for 13.4 ounce cans of Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets EN Gastroenteric Low Fat (PPVD EN Low Fat), due to an incorrect labeling error as reported by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. For a short period starting September 15, 2022 at one of our factories, Purina ONE True Instinct Tender Cuts In Gravy With Real Turkey & Venison wet dog food was mislabeled as PPVD EN Low Fat. Although safe for consumption by adult dogs who require prescription PPVD EN Low Fat diet due to sensitivities to traditional diets or difficulty digesting fats.
Purina PetCare was alerted to this problem after multiple pet owners noticed differences in texture of food from different PPVD EN Low Fat cans they purchased – some with chunks in gravy while the correct product has more of a pate-like consistency.
Purina PetCare has not received any reports to date of illness or injury to dogs fed this mislabeled product, which was available by prescription only and distributed through veterinary clinics and retailers with the capability of verifying prescriptions. Purina PetCare contacted these partners, asked them to remove this product from their shelves, as well as recommend that any affected products owned by individuals be immediately disposed of and we will replace them as quickly as possible.
One can quickly identify mislabeled products by their UPC (38100 17599), production code (22581159 L4TR6) and best before date (“Best Before Sept 2024”). This allows one to detect counterfeit PPVD EN Low Fat cans.
Purina products not involved in this voluntary recall include nothing else.
