Mexican premium pet food manufacturer introduced a new line of diets that are specialized for certain conditions.
Grupo Nupec announced that in 2022 it will launch a new portfolio of products, which is based on the latest research and technology. Nupec recently held an event to show off its latest product innovations in Queretaro.
has launched eight new products, three for cats and four for dogs. The new cat varieties are formulated for digestive health, kidney care, and urinary management. Dog food launches include the same plus extra small-breed formulas for adults and puppies.
All new products are aimed at improving the palatability of food and ensuring high digestibility. They include functional ingredients like yucca, which reduces feces smell, prebiotics, which improve digestion, fatty acid to prevent inflammation in the digestive tract, and L-carnitine, to help metabolize fat. All formulations also include two natural preservatives: rosemary and tocopherols.
The renal care and urinary control varieties also focus on controlling or reducing minerals, and relieving kidney stress. The high calorie content compensates for a reduced appetite.
More premium products focus on pet health
Nupec, a premium pet food manufacturer, is increasing awareness about pets’ health by including functional ingredients into their formulations. Pet owners are increasingly focused on pet health.
According to academic sources the most common health issues that dogs and cats living in urban areas of Latin America experience include obesity. This leads to a variety of health issues, such as joint problems, diabetes, and heart disease. Dental problems can also lead to gum disease, tooth decay, and other health issues. Digestion problems and nutritional deficiencies may manifest as a variety of symptoms such as dry, dull skin, lethargy, and dull coat. Food allergies can lead to symptoms like itching, diarrhea and vomiting.
Few data on pet diseases, but there are opportunities in Latin America
A study in the Journal of Nutritional Science published in Brazil in 2017 found that 52% of dogs were overweight and 54% of cat’s were obese. A study published in the Journal of Veterinary Dentistry, in 2019, found that 73.9% of Brazilian dogs and 85.3% of Brazilian cats had periodontal diseases.
There are still many areas to develop and launch pet food products that contain functional ingredients in order to improve the lives of pets and their well-being.
